Pockett's Is Alive & Well
Pocketts, Western Michigan's newest nightclub, held its opening Thursday, July 18, 1985, to resounding applause. Its unique decor of magenta and royal blue light contemporary is exceptionally pleasing to the eye. The spacious dance floor is designed to accommodate a large numberof dancers.
In the evening, hold on to your hats, as the greater Grand Rapids area experiences the finest in musical entertainment. First on the list is Alive & Well, co-owners of the club, and locally, a very highly acclaimed group in the musical entertainment industry. Their high energy sounds will entice even the "non-dancer" to step out and whirl the night away. The band began this night's set under the spotlights with the encouragement of the congas and special effects introducing the audience to Pablo Cruise's "Rio," gently lifting the crowd to thunderous applause later on in their "60s medley with Aretha Franklin's "Think." They continued through the night with a mixture of contemporary songs and oldies.
Pocketts concept is unique in that it was evolved through a joint effort of the band members of Alive & Well, and Steve Wickering, general manager and co-owner of the club. Pocketts is the achievement of a goal. After 18 years of hard work in the industry, it is a perfect example of the "American Dream" story. Together with the ongoing perfecting of their music and saving the necessary capital, Jerry Adams, Cindy Kropf, Dale Kropf, Roger MacNaughton, Dan Lomas, and Carl Andrews have taken the successful step from help to management---in a word---they made it!
Come down to Pockets and wish them all well.
